Today we drove 3 hours to Maydale, TX to board the old diesel train for a short ride to the Corn Maze. Maydale is home to the historic 1890s turntable. We arrived early enough to see the Steam Engine come in from Palestine and turn around on the table. We figured that Brec would love seeing the Steam Engine and the Turntable but this was truly a new experience for us all.
After watching the engine pull on down the track and recouple we were able to sit on the depot steps and watch it depart. We were less than 5 feet from the wheels and could really see how the whole thing works. Both boys were so excited (except for Ashton when the whistle blew the first time and he burst into tears). We still aren't sure how long it took for his blood pressure to return to normal. From then on, Ashton asked what the noise was every time the whistle blew.
This was the engine we took to the corn maze. There was a lady there complaining to someone that she was supposed to take a train to the corn maze and then found out that she was only taking "this shuttle." Seriously, like this wasn't a train??? I've got books she can borrow to educate herself.
We started off in the Corn Maze. This maze is 6 acres and looks like this:
It took us awhile to get through as we let Brec start directing us to begin with. This was after the halfway mark where he decided he needed to rest with his drink. Finally we finished and we got to play some more.
We finally went on a hayride and got a drink from their concession stand. My boys went through 4 packages of teddy grahams and 3 Capri-sun. They were so thirsty and hungry! But we had a lot of fun and will do it again next year.
